We do not use cages. We treat all of our cats as pets and part of our family. Our cats are free to share the house with us, but they also all have their own areas where they can take a nap, eat or use the litter box in a private manner.
We do not overcrowd. We only have two breeding females, one male. To keep any more cats than that would require keeping them in cages. Something we would never do.
We are a closed cattery. This means that we do not offer stud services nor we use outside studs for our females. This is an effort to keep potentially harmful diseases at bay. Our cats are FeLV free (feline leukemia). Additionally, our cats are strictly indoors and we expect that the kittens we offer on adoption will also be kept indoors exclusively.
We have a limited number of kittens per year.
Female cats can be made to have one litter right after the other, thus
“producing” a large number of kittens per year, but this damages the
mom’s health greatly because her body is not allowed to recuperate
after giving birth. This also affect kittens as they get all their
nutrients from a weakened mother the first 4 critical weeks of their
lives.
We decided a long time ago to limit the number of times a cat can get
pregnant to 2 per year. This gives them plenty of time to regain their
strength and it has the additional benefit of allowing the mothers to
spend more time with their kittens, instead of having to concentrate on
a new litter.
We keep a strict health program. Our cats have regular vet visits on one of the best recognized veterinary hospitals of the area: The Silverado Veterinary Hospital in Napa, CA
All kittens are seeing by the same vet before they are ready to go home
and are thoroughly tested for diseases, get their first round of shots
and de-worming treatments.
We feed our cats the best food available and we give them vitamin supplements as recommended by our vets.
We screen our potential clients. In an effort to
make sure our kittens will go to caring, responsible homes we ask a few
questions of our potential adopters (we try to be as unobtrusive as
possible). We basically want to make sure that our kittens will be
indoors all the time, will have access to quality health care, will not
live in a dangerous environment and will have a human to love and play
with them.
Our kittens are offered in adoption as pets only. We do not raise kittens for breeding programs.
